Sian Ka'an

The Biosphere of Sian Ka'an became a national park in 1986 and came under the protection of UNESCO in 1987. It is one of the most amazing natural gifts of the Caribbean, covering an area of more than 5,280 km2 over land and sea.

Sian Ka'an in the Mayan language means "where the sky is born", because the color of the ocean blends with the color of the sky. It is a sacred place for the Maya and amongst mangroves and lagoons there are more than 35 small Mayan ruins and altars.

Excursion:

Mini-van transfer to a meeting point where groups of 4 people get to drive themselves in a comfortable Jeep, accompanied by a guide along the dirt road in the Biosphere that leads to the fishing village of Punta Allen. Along the road you will cross the famous bridge of Boca Paila that divides the lagoon from the Caribbean ocean.

Arrival in Punta Allen, refreshments served at a local restaurant before setting off in small motorboats (max. 6 people per boat) with a local fisherman. You will be taken to the amazing lagoon in the Biosphere where you can admire 'bird island' and see comorants, pelicans, frigates and osprey, among other species of birds. You will then pass through the mangrove canals to the 'black lagoon' where the fisherman take their boats when the threat of a hurricane arrives.

From the lagoon to the magnificent Caribbean ocean and along the way relax and take in the amazing colours and sun, sea and sky of this pristine paradise. You will have the chance to do some unforgettable snorkelling on this magnificent part of the coral reef rich in color, various corals, tropical fish and even lobster. With your skilled capitain acting as a guide you will be able to admire dolphins, sea turtles and star fish from your boat as you are taken to the 'natural swimming pool', a place you thought only existed in your dreams, with crystal clear shallow waters.

There you can have a refreshing swim and after taking the necessary photos to make friends and family envious you will return to the beaches of Punta Allen where you will be served a delicious buffet lunch in one of the restaurants while taking in the view of the Caribbean.

We recommend you take with you: cap or hat, sandals, bathing suit and towel, insect repellent, biodegradable sunscreen and extra money for shopping
